Performing Arts (Music)

Diploma of Performing Arts (Music) is designed to prepare students for entry into the music profession. Your studies will include specialist performance classes, individual lessons and participation in ensembles – some classes will be integrated with ECU students.

Famous Alumni who graduated from WAAPA at ECU

Tim Van Der Kuil – 1988 Certificate of Music – is Adele’s guitarist and musical director. He started playing guitar for her during her Adele Live tour and has continued to do so on the Adele Live 2016 tour. Prior to his work with Adele, Van Der Kuil toured with Daniel Merriweather, Sia, Jason Mraz, Taylor Swift, Mark Ronson, Robbie Williams, The Script, Mika, and Tina Turner, among others.

Linda May Han Oh – 2005 Bachelor of Music (Jazz) Honours – is the Winner of the ‘Best jazz instrumental album’ at the Grammys alongside Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, Nicholas Payton & Matthew Stevens for New Standards Vol. 1.

Leah Haywood – 1997 Advanced Certificate of Commercial Music – performed backing vocals for Celine Dion on “That’s the Way It Is”, the 1999 hit single from Dion’s album All The Way, A Decade Of Song. Also in late 2008, Haywood provided background vocals for the ballad “Out from Under” sung by American pop singer Britney Spears off her sixth studio album, Circus. In 2011, Haywood co-wrote three songs on American singer-songwriter Demi Lovato‘s third studio album “Unbroken”; “Hold Up”, “Mistake” and title track “Unbroken”. Also co-wrote “Hit the Lights” by American singer Selena Gomez from When the Sun Goes Down. Leah also co-wrote and co-produced the track “Marilyn Monroe” by American rapper Nicki Minaj from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2020, Leah co-wrote “Lovesick Girls” by South Korean girl group Blackpink from their debut studio album, The Album. In April 2022, Leah and her husband were nominated at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for their work on Justin Bieber‘s Justice album track, “Off My Face”. In 2009, The is the Producer, Writer, (“Supergirl”) for Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana 3. In 2019 she is Producer, Writer for Katy Perry for the album Never Really Over.

Rebecca Glorie (violin) – 2001 Bachelor of Music (Performance) – In 2000 she performed for Queen Elizabeth II as a member of Ensemble Arcangelo.

Christopher Dragon (conductor) – 2011 Bachelor of Music – Dragon has a versatile portfolio ranging from live-to-picture performances including Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
