Arriving in Perth
Customs, Transport and OSHC!
Perth International Airport is very new and modern and easy to navigate. Before you arrive in Australia you will need to fill out a Declarations Form. On the Declaration Form you will need to declare any food and other items BEFORE you go through customs. If you have any questions about what you need to declare you should ask a flight attendant on the airplane or before you go through customs so you don’t face any fines.
First time in Perth
If it’s your first time coming to Perth and you are not sure where to go or what to do, you can organise for someone to meet you at the airport when you arrive. ECC utilises two companies to arrange airport reception for students. Perth Student Accommodation (PSA) and Australian Homestay Network (AHN)You will need to contact them directly. This service is FREE the first time you use this but must be booked in advance.
There are lots of other ways to get to your accommodation. You can catch a taxi from the taxi rank which is just to your left as you exit the International Airport. You can also use public transport. Check out this website for more information.
You will need to check your visa to see if you are permitted to work and what hours you can work while you study. Remember you have made the move to Perth to concentrate on your studies and do as well as possible so make sure work does not get in the way of this.
As a condition of your student visa, you must maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) while in Australia. You must obtain this cover for the proposed duration of your visa.
If you have an accident or health problem within Australia, you will be able to redeem some or all of your medical costs. ECC can organise OSHC on your behalf with our preferred OSHC provider: Medibank. Further details will be provided in your Letter of Offer.
