R U OK? Day @ ECC

This week, Edith Cowan College came together to focus on the importance of connection and mental health through R U OK? Day. To mark the occasion, staff and students hosted an event that encouraged students to check in with themselves and those around them. Here’s a little recap of how it went:

At the event stalls, students had the opportunity to take a little pot plant home, which they could care for and nurture, just as we should ourselves. The students loved the idea of growing their own plant, which left us having to restock pots within the first day.

One of the best activities was the Encouragement Wall. Students wrote and stuck sticky notes with motivational words and quotes on the Wall or picked one to take that resonated with them.

Students also wrote letters to themselves for reflection and to their friends, sending their feelings and starting a conversation through written messages. There were also free cupcakes and snacks, which always manages to brighten everyone’s day.

This week has been amazing so far, seeing so many students get involved – whether grabbing a plant, writing words of encouragement, or just chatting with others – it has really helped to spread kindness and a positive energy throughout the ECC community. We know that studies can be challenging and overwhelming but remember, you’re not alone. Let’s continue to check in and support one another at ECC beyond this week!
