Walking into the Academic Council meeting on Friday (19/9) honestly felt surreal. We were surrounded by senior staff and academics, and for a moment, the nerves definitely kicked in as it hit us that this is where big decisions are made that shape our student experience.
Even though we were a little nervous, it felt empowering to have a seat at that table and speak on behalf of our peers. Sharing the student voice in such a formal setting made us feel not just heard but truly valued. We weren’t just students in that room; we were active contributors to the future of ECC.
We raised the things that matter most to us and our fellow students: support services, campus life, and academic challenges. The best part was that people genuinely listened. They asked questions, took notes, and really cared about what we had to say.
Being part of the meeting reminded us exactly why we stepped into student leadership. It’s not only about organising events or lending a hand, it’s about making sure every student feels seen, supported, and connected to something bigger.
We walked out of the meeting proud of what we’d achieved, inspired by the experience, and determined to keep advocating for our ECC student community. Nervous or not, we think we did a great job, and it felt truly special to be part of the council.
