Student Leader Reflection

Being part of the Student Leadership Team for the ECC student graduation was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. As the leader in charge, I had the opportunity to work closely with the staff during the planning process, which gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how much detail and coordination goes into an event like this. I visited the college the day before to discuss the schedule, understand our roles, and make sure everything was clear for the team.

On the day of the graduation ceremony, all the student leaders arrived early, full of energy and ready to help. Working alongside the staff felt like being part of one united team, and it was inspiring to see how smoothly everyone communicated and supported each other. I was stationed at the entrance to help graduates and guests to registration desks, while other student leaders managed registration and assisted staff where needed. Once registration was complete, we all moved inside the hall, where we guided the graduates as they received their awards and exited the stage. Seeing how well we coordinated in real time really showed me the value of teamwork.

A few moments stood out to me personally such as taking photos together after our tasks were done, meeting old friends who were graduating, and reconnecting with some of our lecturers. These small interactions made the day even more special. Overall, being a student leader for the graduation reminded me of how meaningful leadership can be and not just about guiding others, but also about learning from the people you work with.

I hope future student leaders get the chance to be part of events like this. It’s an experience that builds confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.
