My name is Judah, from Perth. My experience at Edith Cowan College (ECC) has been an incredible experience. I’m currently completing my Diploma of Science (Engineering Studies) as a pathway to ECU, where I plan to pursue mechanical engineering degree—my true passion.
One of the most rewarding parts of my time at ECC has been joining the Peer Mentor Program. Mathematics was a challenge for me at first, but through mentoring, I not only improved my own skills but also helped others who were struggling. We break problems into simple steps, use examples, and even share little stories to make concepts easier to understand. It’s especially helpful for international students who face different teaching styles.
Mentoring isn’t just about giving back—it keeps me sharp and connected with lecturers and classmates. I’ve seen how building these relationships boosts confidence and creates a real sense of community. It feels more welcoming at ECC and ECU compared to other universities, and the smaller classes make it easier to support each other.
For me, the Peer Mentor Program is about helping others succeed while continuing to learn myself. Every session makes me better prepared for the future.
