Studying in Perth isn’t just about classes and assignments – it’s also about enjoying everything the city has to offer. One of the best experiences for students is attending live concerts, theatre productions and musical performances at WAAPA (the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts), located at ECU’s brand-new City Campus in the heart of Perth CBD. WAAPA presents more than 300 performances throughout the year, with many events offered at student-friendly prices and some even free to attend.
Recently, ECC students attended the WAAPA Symphony Orchestra’s special ECU City concert, featuring acclaimed soprano Emma Matthews, conductor Jessica Gethin, student cellist Finlay Labuschagne, and the world premiere of Perth City Skylines, a new work celebrating ECU City and WAAPA’s exciting future.
Over the next few months, students can enjoy a range of exciting performances. Free Lunchtime Concerts run regularly throughout August and September, making them perfect for a study break. Music lovers can also catch internationally acclaimed Perth-born artist KUČKA on 31 July and award-winning guitarist Karin Schaupp on 13 August.
For theatre fans, TILT: Festival of the New showcases original works by graduating students in September, while major productions such as The Fairy Queen and & Juliet bring professional-quality performances to Perth audiences.
Whether you’re into music, theatre or simply looking for an affordable night out with friends, WAAPA offers a fantastic way to experience Perth’s vibrant arts scene while studying in Western Australia.
This experience is part of the Discover Perth Through Students’ Eyes project, proudly sponsored by StudyPerth, giving students meaningful ways to explore local culture beyond the classroom.
