Believing in Myself: My Journey to Receiving an ECC Scholarship

Hello, my name is Jemimah Komba, and I am from Papua New Guinea.

When I started studying at ECC, I did not expect that I would receive a scholarship. After achieving strong results in my first assessments, I realised that I was capable of achieving more than I had originally expected. From that point, I made it a personal goal to work towards earning a scholarship and stayed focused throughout the trimester. The support and encouragement I received from ECC lecturers and staff also helped me stay motivated and confident in my studies.

When I received the email informing me that I had been selected as a recipient of the ECC Merit Based Scholarship, I was honestly shocked. I had always assumed that scholarships were something students applied for, so I was surprised to learn that the College had recognised my strong academic performance and dedication throughout the trimester. I was excited and very proud of myself.

The first person I shared the news with was my mum. I immediately took a screenshot of the email and sent it to her. She was incredibly happy and proud, which made the achievement even more meaningful to me.

Receiving this scholarship has shown me that hard work, consistency, and self-belief can lead to opportunities that may seem out of reach at first.

My advice to future students is to trust yourself, stay consistent, and never underestimate what you are capable of achieving. Make the most of the support available to you, work hard towards your goals, and do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

I am very grateful to ECC for this opportunity and look forward to continuing my studies.
