On 2nd October 2026, ECC and ECU students came together at the ECU Sports and Recreation Centre for our second futsal tournament. After the success of the first tournament last year, this year’s event was bigger, with six teams and 24 players taking part in a day filled with competition, teamwork and plenty of fun.
In the lead-up to the tournament, I created a promotional poster and advertised the event through social media, class visits and word of mouth. Once the teams were confirmed, I organised the groups and fixtures and worked with the team to make sure everything was ready for the day.
The tournament consisted of group matches followed by semi-finals and a final, with each game played over 15 minutes. The matches were highly competitive, with every team bringing their own momentum and determination. We saw some great goals, exciting games and most importantly fantastic sportsmanship.
One of my favourite moments came during our semi-final. My team went through to the final after winning a penalty shootout, with me saving the final penalty! We eventually finished as Runners-up, with Wajakohya Boys taking home the Champions trophy after a 1–0 victory in the final.
We also provided refreshments throughout the day, including fruit, apple juice, protein bars, samosas, spring rolls and pizzas. A big thank you to my fellow peers and student leaders- Fatema and Kim for helping with registrations and refreshments, and to Bahama and Ory for helping set up the goalposts and the rest of the venue. A special shout-out also goes to our special guest referee too!
I was honestly quite nervous in the morning and wasn’t sure if everything would come together. However, seeing everyone enjoying themselves by the end of the day made all the planning and hard work worthwhile. During the awards ceremony, I had the opportunity to thank everyone who supported the event, especially my fellow Student Leaders, Miss Rajin for helping make the tournament possible, and Rob (ECC’s Academic Director) for giving us the opportunity to organise it.
We finished with the presentation of the trophies and medals and a group photo with everyone. Seeing everyone leave with smiles on their faces was probably the best part of the day.
After successfully hosting the tournament for a second time, I’m already looking forward to next year. Hopefully, we can make it even bigger, better and more fun!
