Hello! My name is Nikita Whatuira, and I am currently finishing up my final year in a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. To finish my degree, I’ve had to undertake an 80-hour internship, and luckily enough, I was accepted for a role at Edith Cowan College.
Now, given that this was a marketing role, I thought I knew what to expect in terms of tasks and jobs, but I was pleasantly surprised to be given things that I’ve had very little experience with. I was given the opportunity to sit in important meetings and listen to the initial stages of marketing operations. I got to make friends with students and spend the day out with them at mini golf (funniest experience ever), and my supervisor taught me important skills in communication, specifically with emails, Excel, Word, and even PowerPoint; how to format correctly, what appears more professional, and things that I could improve on.
This experience at ECC thoroughly improved my understanding of a marketing role and the work it implies, as well as showed me what it is like to work in a professional setting, where every role is integral to how the organisation runs. ECC was the best placement I could have asked for, so thank you ECC!!
